Goa witnesses plenty of catholic, christian, Hindu, foreign and NRI weddings throughout the year from January to December with a few slack months spread across the calendar. But many people across the globe want to have their dream wedding in Goa including the Goan diaspora who have settled abroad but want to return to their roots to celebrate their wedding and want to know which time of the year is ideal for a Goan wedding. Just what is the best time to get married in Goa?
Every year, from 1st January till ash Wednesday, the state is agog with a huge rush of Goan weddings. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season in Goa as it is all over the world and during this period beginning anywhere from mid February to March end or beginning/mid of April, there is a drop in the wedding activity on the Goan wedding horizon when it comes to catholic and christian weddings. However during this time Hindu weddings, foreign weddings and NRI weddings continue in full flow. The Goan wedding activity resumes immediately after Easter Sunday somewhere in April and continues till end of may or beginning of June when the monsoon sets its thunderprints over the Goan landscape.
Post monsoon, around mid September, the Goan weddings surface again and go on with a crescendo reached in the Christmas week in December. From December 26th to 30th the wedding season in Goa touches its 52 week high when almost every wedding venue , every professional wedding master of ceremonies and every known wedding vendor have their hands full.
So when is the ideal time to have your wedding in Goa? When would you like to plan your wedding in Goa? There are a few things that you might want to consider in yourlist of preferences when you make that decision. One of the following things could well determine the date of your wedding in Goa.
1. Is a suitable climate for a wedding in Goa your preferred choice for timing your wedding?
2. Are you focused on a favorable wedding date to compliment your work schedules?
3. Is the attendance of some close friends and relatives important to your wedding date?
4. Is the Goa holiday season your preferred choice for a Goan wedding?
5. Is the timing of your wedding influenced by cost-effective Goan wedding calendar?
6. Is a particular date for the Goan wedding very important to you?
Now let us see these factors one by one and the pros and cons of each of them.
(1) Is a suitable climate for a wedding in Goa your preferred choice for timing your wedding?
Climate is one of the major factors influencing the decision to have weddings in Goa. In favour of that decision, the period from October till January is the best season suited for weddings with December being the kingmaker of all the months in the calendar when weddings are in a packed schedule in Goa. Also the winter months from October to January are very conducive for wearing your wedding attire in terms of comfort especially for the bride. For the guests, it is a great time to attend a wedding in Goa since the cool atmosphere allows you to wear whatever you wish and generally the mood is upbeat with weather being pleasant , it has a positive reflection on the mood, the fun and the thrills during the wedding as you can exert yourself much more and still not feel tired. However to book your venue and the wedding vendors you may have not only pay more for this peak season but also plan more than a year in advance if you need the right people for the job in Goa since this is the season where the services may be charged at a nominal premium.
(2) Are you focused on a favorable wedding date to compliment your work schedules?
Another reason which influences many a decision to have a wedding may not have anything to do with the climate, pleasant or not. Rather it may have to do with the availability of the bridegroom or the family etc. Very often the bridegroom may be working abroad and may have little time for a short vacation in Goa during which he decides to tie the knot. In this scenario, whatever day is available becomes your wedding day and preferences do not matter. Sometimes due to such time constraints, weddings are even held in Goa for such time bound people in the Lenten season and very often in the Monsoon period from June to September. It is therefore a personal call whether you can adjust and make time during the pleasant wedding season or whether time constraints will influence your decision to get married at any time of the year irrespective of the weather or availability of your guests or whether it is the Lenten season or not.
(3) Is the attendance of some close friends and relatives important to your wedding date?
Very often the bridal couple is particular that their close friends and relatives who mean a lot to them in their life, are able to attend the wedding. Due to this, wedding dates are often altered and ensured that the close ones are available for the wedding. This is again a personal decision and influences weddings to be held on emotional cords to suit personal bonds and to ensure that the relevant people find it convenient to attend the wedding and may not be during the favorable time of the Goan wedding calendar.
(4) Is the Goa holiday season your preferred choice for a Goan wedding?
Holidays, for children in Goa are in the summer months of April and May just as it may be in the rest of India. There are also a couple of weeks holidays in October and December for Diwali and Christmas. During these holidays, parents also tend to be more at freedom and can partake in celebration in a much better way than otherwise. This influences many a decision to have a wedding at a particular time of the year in a big way. For people who have relatives in Bombay and elsewhere in India, it is an ideal time to have a wedding in Goa. April and May are therefore the heavily stacked months of the Goan summer wedding and there are plenty ofweddings happening in Goa during this time. however it being the summer, it may not be such a pleasant time of the year in Goa since the humidity levels are quite high and it can often be severely uncomfortable a period for everyone as sweat flows more than wine.
(5) Is the timing of your wedding influenced by cost-effective Goan wedding calendar?
If you are looking at reducing your wedding cost in a “inflation happy Goa”, and seeking an economic alternative, it is not a bad idea to schedule your wedding during the slack months of the Goan Monsoon from June to September wherein some of the services and vendors may be available at a nominal rate compared to the busier wedding months in the Goan year. However your wedding will not be able to be planned at any of the open air venues due to the high probability of rainfall and you will have to choose from among the various wedding halls available in Goa. Some people would prefer this option and therefore make their decision accordingly.
(6) Is a particular date for the Goan wedding very important to you? There are those who want their wedding to coincide with their parents wedding anniversary or make sure they get married on the same day on which they first saw, met, or proposed to each other. Many a time the birthday of the bride, the groom or of their parents may also get preference as the wedding day. I have been the Master of Ceremonies for more than one wedding where the bride and the groom shared the same birthday and also got married on the same day. What a wedcidence!
When it comes to foreign or NRI weddings in Goa, the dates do not essentially matter. I reckon the weather does. For the Lenten season is a hectic one witnessing many weddings on the beaches of Goa as also at all the starred hotels where you see extravagant wedding parties replete with the best of entertainment, entertainers, music and song.
Getting married in Goa is ideally the best decision to make in itself. “When” is probably a question which is largely dependent on your preferences. But in my experience of being the wedding emcee in Goa, I would easily choose any convenient date between the months from November to January to plan for a great Goan wedding celebration.
